Press Release
On show at Autosport
2008 this year will be new camshaft measurement
and analysis software
from Baty International.
Developed through their
association with Hawk Kawasaki British Superbike Team, Baty's new CAM-Check
kit enables engine tuners to collect profile data from cams that have
performed well on the dyno, allowing them to check that replacement cams
have been made to exactly the same spec. Also, they will be able to use
this base data to develop new profiles, specifying to the cam grinder
exactly what profile changes are required and using CAM-check to ensure
that the development cam has been ground to those requirements.

The kit consists
of three parts: a bench fixture to locate the camshaft and various digital
transducers which in turn are connected to Baty's 'GageChek' data collection
unit.
This unit logs the linear displacement of each lobe being measured with
the rotation of the camshaft. The resulting data file is either sent automatically
or stored until needed before being sent via network or USB device to
a PC where Baty's CAM-check software will plot the lobe profile data graphically.
Lobe data from several cams can be overlaid on top of each other and a
visual comparison made from one camshaft to another.
In this case one camshaft is nominated as the master and CAM-check best
fits the data plots from the other shafts and shows where profile errors
occur.
A tolerance value can be applied to the master cam so that subsequent
cam data can be quickly classified as PASS or FAIL.
