Description of Baty’s 3D CAD Module

1) Solid Models (IGES or STEP format) can be imported by clicking on a button within Fusion. The solid model will be shown in a floating window on top of the main Fusion screen.

The user can manipulate the view of the model by rotation, zooming, positioning, or simply use the buttons provided to see one of six 2D views, or a standard isometric view.

2) Alignment to the solid model can be done in one of two ways:

a) By measuring geometric features on the part (eg. Plane, Line, Circle) and linking those features to the CAD model, by simply clicking on the relevant features on the model.

b) By taking a minimum of 6 points on the component, clicking on the CAD model to show its approximate position, and then doing a best-fit alignment through the points.

3) Having aligned to the CAD model, any points taken in all features will now appear in the CAD window, attached either to the solid model by coloured lines leading to boxes showing the error of the point: Detailed information about each point can be seen by simply clicking on the error box:

Or alternatively the results can be represented by lines, the length of which represents the error of each point from the CAD model.

Colours are also used to represent the error, either as a colour spectrum (green = zero error, blue out of tolerance below limit and red out of tolerance above limit, with colour shading in between), or as distinct colour bands. The colour spectrum or bands are fully configurable by the user, together with variables such as tolerance and scale.

4) The component may be measured as one inspection for the whole part, or as separate features, as follows:

5) Reports can be prepared at the click of a mouse button. They can be either graphical, or in a tabulated format,
or printed as a combination of both:

Or, if Excel is installed on the PC, then reports can be exported in an Excel format
